Some Vectorworks users have a multiple monitor set-up they only part of the time (for example, they have a laptop and they occasionally connect to a second monitor, or they only occasionally work without that second monitor). This can cause your Vectorworks palettes to "jump around" a bit when connecting or disconnecting that second monitor, understandably because your computer's display resolution is effectively changing.
In cases like this, currently the best way we have found to be ready for the various possible hardware set-ups is to have one workspace per hardware arrangement.
For example, Paxar own tech support team member Rob has three different workspaces depending on how his computer is connected for the day.
(In addition to the stock Architect workspace that he always has on hand...) He has an "Architect 27" workspace, an "Architect MBP" workspace and an "Architect 24" workspace.
He uses the "Architect 27" workspace for his 27" monitor at home, the "Architect MBP" workspace for when he is working solely on his MacBook Pro (13" screen) and the "Architect 24" workspace is when I was connected to an older 24" monitor. Each Workspace has its palettes set for the monitor set up he is on, then saved via Windows > Palettes > Save Palette Positions.
The key is remembering to switch to your Workspace to the NEXT monitor set-up you'll be using BEFORE you quit Vectorworks and disconnect the monitor you are at currently.
It's not the perfect workaround, (as you may find that if you are in a large display set up, and disconnect your display, that workspace will reformat to your smaller display settings) but it works. It does take some practice to remember to switch to your next display workspace setting before disconnecting, but it's worth doing in you're in this scenario.
We hope this guidance helps!
