To answer the question about building a "dream machine" for running Vision, we received guidance from Vectorworks' own Vision expert. As of November 2017, he recommends:
- A 3.0 Ghz i5 or i7 chip (or an i9 if the budget allows)
- 16gb of DDR4 RAM (but the more the better if it’s also going to be used as a Vectorworks machine.) If it’s ONLY going to run Vision, 8gb should work fine.
- A "gaming" graphics card. (Avoid "Workstation" graphics cards)
- An SSD ideally, not as much for Vision but for general usability.
- Pay attention to Airflow! Because Vision uses unlimited light sources, the GPU is going to work hard, and it can get hot. Spending a decent amount on a good computer case and fans is highly advise. A liquid-cooled GPU would be very nice (but those can be expensive.)
- A large 1080p monitor
- Windows 7 or 10.
