No extra hardware is required, just plug and play mostly. Both the ION and the Vision computer need to be in the same subnet (first 3 numbers of IP address)...

This is a known issue that occurred after updating to Vectorworks 2017 SP2 on a Mac. The solution described here should solve the issue.
